Humayuns Tomb is a monumental tribute to a 16th century emperor in Delhi. Humayun and his wife lie buried within, surrounded by Indias first Persian-style gardens. Crafted out of red sandstone, the tomb itself is an ornate remembrance. The building served as a refugee camp during the partitioning of India and Pakistan. Restoration to the grand structure began in early 1990s and lasted ten years. The tomb showcases a distinctive blend of Islamic and Indian architecture. Innovatively constructed, Humayuns Tomb set the standard for centuries of design.
