The backwaters of Kerala are truly remarkable waterways: wild yet serene, remote yet inhabited.
There are hundreds of miles of canals, rivers, lagoons, and lakes in southern India.
The beauty of this place is unlike any other with peaceful waters, unique wildlife, and tranquil forests.
Although the area is not heavily inhabited there are resorts and hotels, plus many villages.
Alternatively, visitors can rent a houseboat for a just a day, or for several.
These houseboats are quite large, up to 70 feet, and often come with a guide.
Given how much of the backwaters there are, your trip can last as long as you want.
