Hey there's also a "batucada" every saturday and sunday, with people playing guittar, drinking, etc.. nearby I go there every sunday to play you can see some of that in the video

Going on weekends is a good option but I think its even better if you go during day time when you can find card readers, chinese people giving you massages, little show, different street artists...
